How to root Samsung Galaxy S5 on Android 5.0 Lollipop (Guide)

These are the guidelines to root Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F smartphones on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Rooting the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphones means you can start installing awesome apps like the Total Commander file manager.

REQUIREMENTS

The following guide is made for the SM-G900f variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5 only. You can find out the model number of your device by heading over to the Menu > Settings > About Device and scrolling down until you can see the model number.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

You must have the bootloader unlocked before you can root the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphones. We don’t give you the guide for unlocking the bootloader from here, but you can find more information on that from Chainfire’s website.
Download the Samsung USB Drivers for mobile phones from the USB drivers page we have here.
You must have the Developer Options menu enabled if you don’t have it enabled already. You can check if yours is enabled by heading over to the menu > Settings and scrolling down until you can see the Developer Options menu.
Once you have the Developer Options enabled, you must enter it from the Settings. You can get that done by heading to the Menu > Settings > Developer Options. Once inside, check the box for USB Debugging Mode.

HOW TO ROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 SM-G900F RUNNING ANDROID 5.0 LOLLIPOP

Download the CF-Auto-Root tool from this link.
Download the Odin flashing tool from this link.
Shift both the files over to the desktop of the computer by clicking and dragging them from the default Downloads folder.
Once on the desktop, right-click and choose the “extract here” option from the menu.
Next, switch off your Samsung Galaxy S5 phone by pressing the Power button once and then selecting the Switch Off option from the Device Options menu.
Now that your device is off, reboot it by holding the Volume Down + Home + Power keys together.
Wait until your screen changes and then chose the Volume Up option.
Now that your device is in the download mode, connect it to the computer using the USB cable.
Wait for the ID: COM port to change color, signifying that you have connected successfully to the computer.
Click the PDA or AP button and browse the desktop for the CF-Root file that you want to flash on your device.
Leave the default settings as they are, including the re-partition box empty.
Click the Start button when you want to start rooting your device.
Wait up to 15 minutes for your device to reboot and the Odin user-interface to give you the pass message.
Once your Samsung Galaxy S5 is rebooted, you can start installing the apps you have been waiting to try on your device.
