How To Install TWRP Recovery on Sony Xperia Z3

SONY XPERIA Z3 is the latest android smartphone from the Sony mobile and packed with some awesome specs and features. The new phone is now available in the market and most of the users already bought the latest flagship model of Sony. Now here is the good news for the Z3 users, TWRP custom recovery is now available for the phone and with the help of recovery you can do lots of task on your phone like root your phone, install custom rom and take nandroid backup. All credit goes to the XDA member monx, who released the new recovery tool. So far the recovery has only been tested to be working on the D6603 and D6653 model numbers of the Xperia Z3. So if you are the D6603 and D6653 Z3 user and want tot install the same on your phone, here is the guide which you can follow on your phone.

CHECK PHONE MODEL
This guide is only for the SONY XPERIA Z3 D6603 and D6653 model android smartphone. Don’t try this method on any of other Android devices, It may hard brick your device. So, first confirm your phone model number in your android phone settings. To do this Go the Settings page of your device and check out the “About Device” option.

 PRE-REQUISITES AND REQUIREMENTS

Before following the below Mention guide, It’s always recommended to follow our pre-requisites and requirement to stay safe.

 1. BACKUP YOUR ANDROID DATA

Do take the Full Backup of your Android Apps, SMS, Contacts, Call Logs, Bookmarks. This one is one of the most important step that you have to follow, as we don’t want anyone losing their personal data or apps. For help on Backup and Restore check out the below mention guides.

2. INSTALL SONY XPERIA Z3 DRIVERS

You need these drivers to connect your device with the computer to follow this guide. Without these USB drivers you can’t connect your device to the PC, first download and install these drivers on your system.
DOWNLOAD ANDROID USB DRIVERS

 3. ENABLE USB DEBUGGING MODE

Now you need to enable USB debugging mode. Without enabling USB debugging mode on your device you can’t start the root, Custom ROM or Unlock process.

 4. CHARGE YOU ANDROID

If your device switched off during this process, it could damage or brick the device. Make sure that your Android battery is full charge or near about 50-70% battery level.

INSTALL TWRP ON SONY XPERIA Z3

Step 1. To get started you have to unlock the bootloader of your phone. Read the guide here how to do that (The guide is for Z2 smartphone but the procedure is same for the Z3 users)

Step 2. Once the bootloader is unlocked. Download the recovery file here and save it on your desktop.

Step 3. Download the Fastboot file for your phone here and extract the folder on your desktop.

Step 4. Now copy/paste the bootZ3monxtest01.img file to the Fastboot adb folder.

Step 5. Now press Shift key + Right click on any empty white space inside the folder, and select “Open command window here”. Now you will see the command prompt window on your desktop.

Step 6. After this Boot your Xperia Z3 into Fastboot Mode. To do this Press and hold the Volume Up button, Connect to your PC using a USB Cable while holding down the Volume Up button on your Xperia Z3.

Step 7. Once your device is in fasboot mode. Enter the following command on command prompt window

If the command prompt window shows some digits and alphabets, then your device has successfully connected to Fastboot. If now then install the Android USB drivers again and restart the process.

Step 8. Now issue the following command:

fastboot flash boot bootZ3monxtest01.img

Step 9. Now the flashing process will start on your phone, wait for some time it will take some time.

Step 10. Once done, issue the following command to reboot your phone

fastboot reboot

That’s all. TWRP recovery should now be installed on your Xperia Z3.
