How To Install TWRP Recovery on Amazon Kindle Fire

Team Win’s TWRP Recovery is the most widely used custom recovery out there on the aftermarket. TWRP’s main selling point is the fact that it’s touch-driven, meaning you aren’t using the Volume keys and Power buttons like that of a stock recovery. To some, using a custom recovery that is relying on the display seems risky, but since TWRP is an independent bootable partition and away from the usual Android operating system, it’s highly unlikely you’ll be having problems with the software any time soon.

These are the instructions to install TWRP Recovery on Amazon Kindle Fire (1st Gen).

REQUIREMENTS
You must have the first-generation Amazon Kindle Fire device to use this guide. Be careful that it is not the second-generation device in your hands.

BEFORE WE BEGIN
Set up adb on your computer that is running Windows so you can type some adb commands from the command line on your computer during the guide.
Download and install the universal ADB Driver on your Windows computer before you start with the guide.
Download the TWRP Recovery file for your first-gen Kindle First from this link.

HOW TO INSTALL TWRP RECOVERY ON AMAZON KINDLE FIRE 1ST GENERATION
Unlock the hidden Developer Options on your Kindle Fire by tapping on the Menu > Settings > About Device > Build Number 7 times. It should say the Developer Options men is now unlocked.
Enable the USB Debugging Mode option by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode. Now you can connect your Amazon Kindle Fire device to the computer with the USB cable and use the adb commands.
Copy the TWRP file over to the same folder as your ad on the computer so they are both in the same directory.
From within your TWRP and adb folder, hold the Shift key and right-click where there are no files in the folder and it should bring up anew menu.
Choose to “open a new command prompt window here” from that same menu.
Type the first command: adb reboot bootloader
Type the second command: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Type the last command: fastboot reboot
You may need to find out the hardware button combination for recovery mode and press it whilst entering the final “fastboot reboot” command. Sometimes the stock recovery can replace the custom recovery if you don’t. Once you get the TWRP booting up at least once, it will forever be there for you to boot up until you choose to flash the stock recovery back on the device.

There are several ways you can get the Amazon Kindle Fire in recovery mode once you have the custom recovery installed and root access already on the device. A new-school method to try is to install the CyanogenMod custom ROM and get to know the new advanced booting menu from inside the custom ROM. CyanogenMod’s advanced booting menu gives users the chance to hold the Power button only and it will bring up a new reboot menu where you can choose the recovery option. That’s far easier than anything you’ll find coming from your stock ROMs.
