When Your Device will Get Android 7.0 Nougat Update

Android 7.0 Nougat Update: When will my phone get it?
It’s official, Android 7.0 is here. Well, for a few people it is. If you're rocking a Nexus 6P, 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Pixel C or Nexus Player, you'll see the update become available in the coming weeks or days.

From multitasking and enhanced Doze skills to Daydream VR support and the new Allo messaging app, it marks a comprehensive refresh of the Android OS, and one that will start rolling out to new and existing devices later this year.

When Android Nougat will come knocking for your device, however, is another question entirely. Unless your device is running stock Android, you’ve probably got a considerable wait ahead as manufacturers and even networks tweak the software to run smoothly with their skins and systems. Impatient to know where your device sits on the Android N update schedule? Here’s when you phone can expect a nougaty refresh.

Nexus Devices
Nexus devices are the first ones when it comes to getting Android updates because they are built to Google specification and Google have absolute control over their software. Below is the list of smartphones which will be updated to Android Nougat:

Nexus 5X
Nexus 6P
Nexus 6
Nexus 9
Nexus Player
Android One
You would have noticed that Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 are missing from this list. Yes, you got it right. Both these phones are not updated to Android Nougat. According to Google, they only provide new software updates for devices which have been launched in last 2 years although they will continue to provide security patches and bug fixes for as long as they can. People who are using Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 should not be disappointed because a custom ROM will be available as soon as Google puts the code for Android 7.0.

Motorola
Motorola devices use almost stock Android so they are updated to newest software really quick. Here’s our predicted list of devices which might get Android Nougat update:

All variants of Moto Z
Moto G4 and Moto G4+
Moto X Play
Moto X Style
Moto G 3rd Gen devices may also be updated to Android 7.0 but we aren’t sure about that because Motorola has once made the mistake of promising updates and not delivering them. But with Lenovo acquiring Motorola we really don’t know what’s in store for us. You should expect Android N to reach these devices within 60 days after Google makes the code available.

HTC
HTC has already announced that HTC 10, HTC One M9 and HTC One A9 will get Nougat updates within 60 days after Goole makes the code available (around October 2016). HTC’s higher end Desire model are also in line to get Android N updates but we aren’t sure which ones will get the update and which one will not. Rumors are that HTC is making 2 Nexus devices for 2016, so if the news is true then they have got time to play with Android N code and remove bugs and hurdles if there are any.

LG
LG has already announced that its LG V20 will be running Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box. It will be launched on September 6, 2016. After V20, we expect LG G5 to get the Nougat update. It will get Android Nougat update around December 2016. Besides this, we also expect LG G4 and LG V10 to be updated to Android N but there are chances that it might not happen. The problem with LG V10 is its limited release while LG G4 was one of the phones which LG messed up as it had hardware and software problems. Besides this, there may be some inexpensive devices which may also get Android N update.

Samsung
Samsung sells the highest number of Android smartphones so be sure that many devices will be updated to Android Nougat. Here’s a list of devices which will sure shot get an update to Android 7.0 Nougat:

Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+
Note 7
Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge
Note 5
Tracking Samsung’s record of rolling out Marshmallow, we think Samsung Galaxy S7 and Note 7 will be updated to Android N in February 2017. The rest of the devices will then follow.

Huawei
Huawei is trying to become the best in smartphones. Although it is a tough task for them, they can easily grab the 2nd best spot by providing best hardware and quick updates. They know the trick to success and are always asking users for what they want and what they don’t and by fulfilling the needs of users, they are making themselves a success. A part of this is providing software updates real quick. Here’s the list of devices which will get Android N:

Huawei P9 (it’s beta build was leaked recently)
Huawei P8
Mate 8
Honor 5X
Huawei will most probably receive Android 7.0 updates in February 2017.

Some Other Devices Which Will Get Android 7.0 Nougat Update
Sony has announced Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Performance will all be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat. So users of these devices, rejoice! Although Sony hasn’t said anything about when to expect Nougat update we think it’ll be around February-March 2017.
OnePlus 3 will also be updated to Android Nougat sometime in 2017. We don’t know the exact time-frame because OnePlus is usually late with these software updates as it has received Android 6.0 Marshmallow update a little over a month back.
Xiaomi, in the worst case, will take about six to eight months to update any existing devices to Android Nougat. In the best case, Xiaomi will roll out Android 7.0 updates 2-3 months after Google launches Nougat i.e. December 2016-January 2017.
NVIDIA Shield TV will be also upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat.
Keep in mind that these are our predicted durations based on the previous track record of manufacturers rolling out software updates. Share this article with your followers on Google+, Facebook, and Twitter to help them know when their device will get Android 7.0 Nougat update.
