How to Root  and Install TWRP Recovery on OnePlus 5

Well, some good news here, folks! The OnePlus 5 root is now available, meaning you can now gain superuser access on the OP5, and use your favorite root apps for some supercool stuff right away. The OnePlus 5 which was recently launched and at a great price tag. We have seen a lot of users buying the OnePlus 5 and also finding the way to root. There are a lot of users who find rooting very essential and enjoy doing it. Rooting gives us the freedom to install any application and try something outside of a box.

The OnePlus 5 root is available thanks to TWRP recovery for the device becoming available today, which is what you need to install first in order to gain root access.

Please consider the next aspects, in order to avoid any complications during the installation process:
Rooting your phone automatically means voiding your warranty, without the possibility of claiming it back.
This method is just for the OnePlus 5. Don’t try it on other phones, since you can damage them!
The process will fully erase your data, so our advice is to take a full backup and just then proceed.
Make sure that the battery level is somewhere around 50-60%, so you can prevent an accidental shutdown, in-between the process.

First you need to Unlock the bootloader of OnePlus 5. (Check How to unlock Bootloader of OnePlus 5)

Files required to Root and Install Custom Recovery on OnePlus 5 –

Download ADB and fastboot driver for windows or ADB and Fastboot for Mac and install it on your PC. This will also install your device driver.

Download TWRP Recovery for OnePlus 5 (Rename it to recovery.img and save it on adb and fastboot folder)

Download SuperSu to root OnePlus 5 and copy it to your phone sd card

How to Install TWRP Recovery on Oneplus 5

Download OnePlus 5 TWRP recovery .img file from the download link above and save it to a separate folder on your PC.

Setup ADB and Fastboot on your PC. For help with that, follow this link .

Enable USB debugging on your OnePlus 5:

Open Settings on your phone.

Go to About phone and tap seven times on Build number, this will enable Developer options.

Now go back to Settings and you’ll see Developer options there, open it.

Tick the USB Debugging checkbox.

Open the folder where you saved OnePlus 5 TWRP Recovery .img file in Step 1 above.

Now open a command window inside that folder. To do that, “Shift + Right click” on any empty white space inside the folder and then select “Open command window here” from the context menu.

Connect your OP5 to the PC. And type the following into the command window we opened in Step 5 above to boot your device into bootloader/fastboot mode:

adb reboot bootloader

Once your OnePlus 5 boots into bootloader mode, issue the following command into command window to flash the TWRP recovery .img file:

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

└ Here modify twrp.img with the name of your TWRP recovery .img file, OR change your TWRP recovery filename to twrp.img and use the command above.

Once TWRP is successfully flashed on your OnePlus 5, issue the following command to reboot:

fastboot reboot

That’s all. TWRP recovery should be installed on your device now. To boot into the freshly installed recovery, simply issue the adb reboot recovery command from command window when your device boots into system.

How to Root Oneplus 5

Download the SuperSU on your device and move the files to your internal storage. Boot your device into the recovery mode and click on the “Install” button and then search for the SuperSU zip file.

Click on file and move the slider and that’s it! You have successfully flashed the SuperSU on your device.

Reboot your device, and you will the SuperSU installed on your device. If you want to pass the SafetyNet, then you can install the Magisk Manager on your device, and it will help you to pass the SafetyNet on your OnePlus 5.
